Quick Review: Poltergeist: 16 bit horror

General

Last week we talked about the Square Enix Latin America Game Contest 2012, and one of those Android game’s really stood out to me. The name of the game is Poltergeist: 16 bit horror and after spending a week scaring pixel men to death we’re back with a full rundown of this little quirky little game.

Poltergeist: 16 bit horror is a game all about the scares as you get to play the part of a ghost whose job is to scare folks out of your home. Each level has a number of rooms along with several tenants in need of a good scare. Each inhabitant has a 3-dot scare meter over their head and your goal is to zero it out which will send them screaming from the house. It sounds pretty simple, but it’s not everyone reacts the same when it comes to being scared; luckily you’ll have several ghastly powers to use on them.

Some of your spooktacular powers include the ability to launch objects, possess things, make specters, and call people into a certain area. You can only use your powers a set amount of times on any given level so you’ll really have to think ahead to get the maximum effect out of your scares. As the game progresses you’ll unlock new abilities, but you’ll also have to deal with tougher opponents like a Ghostbuster and an Exorcist. Obviously these guys don’t scare easily, and then can even prevent you from scaring anyone in the same room as them. By the numbers Poltergeist: 16 bit horror offers up 20 spooky levels and loads of pixely fun.

Poltergeist: 16 bit horror is a great little game, and a pleasant surprise as it’s something I actually haven’t seen before. The really enjoyed the pixel art, and if I have to gripe about something it would have to be the length as it’s a bit shorter than I’d like. That being said it’s not necessarily a bad thing when a game makes you long for more. Poltergeist: 16 bit horror is a game well worth checking out and if you dig it as much as I do be sure to vote for it in The Square Enix Latin America Game Contest 2012. If you want to give it a go you can pick it up Glitchy Pixel’s Poltergeist: 16 bit horror for free on Google Play.
