After more than a decade of anticipation, Rockstar Games has officially locked in the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI. The game launches Thursday, November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, marking more than 13 years since GTA 5 debuted in 2013. This confirmation comes after two separate delays that pushed the title from its original fall 2025 window.
The latest story trailer showcases the neon-soaked streets of a modernized Vice City and introduces protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. The pair are presented as a Bonnie-and-Clyde-style couple trying to build a better life, with Lucia marking the first female protagonist in a mainline 3D Grand Theft Auto. The plot centers on a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida after an easy score goes wrong.
In a significant development for the franchise, GTA 6 is eligible to win Game of the Year at The Game Awards by barely making the cutoff. Games must be released by Friday, November 20 to qualify, giving Rockstar just a one-day margin. With GTA 6 on track to be the biggest game launch of all time, its eligibility adds another layer to an already stacked lineup.
The gaming industry stands at the threshold of what many consider a defining moment. Will GTA 6 live up to expectations and dominate the awards conversation, or will the compressed timeline work against it?
