AION 2 Breaks Through as October’s Free-to-Play Phenomenon
The global PC release of AION 2 has delivered a stunning launch, exceeding 400,000 peak concurrent users on its first day of official service after entering early access on September 30 and releasing on October 5, 2026. Steam alone recorded a peak of 397,905 concurrent players, more than doubling the numbers from its paid early access period and securing a spot among Steam’s top played games.
Built on Unreal Engine 5, AION 2 is the only MMORPG designed around aerial combat, featuring a world 36 times larger than the original where players choose their faction, ascend as a Daeva, and engage in large-scale faction warfare. The sequel takes place 200 years after the first game and continues the conflict between the Elyos and Asmodians.
On Twitch, the game has become a streaming juggernaut. October 2026 data shows over 30 million hours watched with a peak of 262,150 viewers, establishing AION 2 as one of the platform’s fastest-rising titles. Community reception reveals interesting dynamics. While overall Steam reviews sit at mixed with 69 percent positive, among players with over 10 hours of playtime, 81 percent rate it positively. Players praise the combat, graphics, and flight-based exploration, though monetization practices have drawn criticism.
