BlizzCon Roars Back to Life with Record-Breaking Attendance and Game-Changing Announcements
Blizzard Entertainment held BlizzCon 2026 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California on September 12-13, marking a triumphant return for gaming’s most anticipated convention. The event brought major Blizzard announcements during the Opening Ceremony, with attendance reaching approximately 40,000 fans, representing a stunning 30 percent increase from the 2023 gathering and a far cry from the inaugural 8,000 attendees in 2005.
The long-awaited return of StarCraft was announced some 16 years after StarCraft 2, but as an open world shooter rather than an RTS, targeting a 2030 release. Diablo V will be unleashed in Spring 2029, with Sanctuary having fallen and Diablo victorious, setting the stage for a brutal new chapter. World of Warcraft Forever was revealed as a re-envisioning of the classic MMORPG featuring new zones like Mount Hyjal and the Riverglades, new raids, dungeons, and a new race called the Skyborne, set to arrive November 4.
Blizzard president Johanna Faries confirmed that Diablo is being turned into an animated Netflix series, expanding Blizzard’s storytelling beyond gaming. The company also surprised longtime fans with a new Warcraft 3 expansion called Forsaken Kingdom, the first in 23 years, dropping alongside a free Warcraft 3 Reforged 3.0 update.
