If ya’ dig Indie Games like we do, you’re going to love a new one called Treemaker from Mikrotie Ltd. You’ve probably heard a lot about this game lately, and we’ve just included it into our list of the Top 10 New Android Games of the past week. As promised, here’s our full review of Treemaker for Android.
Your main means of transportation in Treemaker are ropes, and you’ll use them to travel from platform to platform collecting seeds as you go. To fire a rope you just need to tap the screen near a platform and your little guy will fire a rope at it as quick as you please. When you want to release a rope simply tap the screen again and he’ll let go. You use this mechanic to swing through the levels of Treemaker, and while it can be tricky at first it’s a whole lotta’ fun once you get the hang of things. You’ll also learn that “red means dead” in Treemaker; if you hit any red object you will die a horrible death. Actually, you’ll just die, but it still sucks so steer clear of the red blocks and platforms.
If you want to see a little ahead of things you can pinch/zoom; you can also gain speed on a rope by swiping the screen. As for the ropes, you can fire as many times as you’d like, but it will cost you a leaf every time you do. Leaves are tallied at the end of each level to see how many stars you get, and what your final score will be. To clear a level you’ll need to get all the big seeds; some stages will have little ones as well that lead the way if you can’t see a platform. A few other tricks are swiping to speed up your swing, and you can pull certain objects with your ropes to clear the way. Treemaker has no achievements or leaderboards, but it does have 30 super slick levels to swing through which is nice, but we sincerely hope they’ll be more to follow.
Verdict
There’s a lot to like in Treemaker, from the graphics & soundtrack to the actual physics behind the game. Everything is very well done, and the game as a whole is top-notch throughout. Oh yeah, it’s free with NO in-app purchases, and the ads are only visible during a very short loading screen between levels. Needless to say, this games got it all folks and if I “had” to say one bad thing about it… I’d say 30 levels isn’t enough give me more lol.
