CD PROJEKT RED just dropped one of the most generous announcements in recent gaming history. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a comprehensive remaster on September 29, 2026, and existing owners will receive it absolutely free.
The free upgrade for existing owners on qualifying platforms brings upgrades and enhancements to visuals, performance, gameplay, and more when it launches on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The remaster delivers a total visual overhaul powered by enhanced path tracing, updated dynamic lighting, higher-resolution textures, and improved environmental foliage, while gameplay mechanics receive modernized combat with refined targeting, new gap-closing animations, dynamic camera angles, and brutal Sign-based finishers.
A native version of Remastered will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, and through a new partnership between CD PROJEKT RED and Blizzard Entertainment, Battle.net, both on September 29. Those who purchase the expansion on Blizzard’s platform will unlock a special Geralt-inspired skin in Diablo 4.
All current owners of The Witcher 3 today gain access to its original two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, for free. The remaster is treated as an update to the existing game, meaning save files carry over and Xbox achievements remain unlocked.
The announcement arrived alongside the reveal of Songs of the Past, a new expansion available to wishlist ahead of its 2027 release that will take players to the brand new realm of Letten.
