A Review of the Futurama Head-in-a-Jar Creator for Android

General

We covered the Futurama Head-in-a-Jar Creator last month when it was released, and at the time it had a few issues. I recently decided to give the app another go and I’m happy to say those seem to be resolved. As a Futurama fan it’s my duty to finally give this Android app a good look so here we go with our review of MTV Networks Futurama Head-in-a-Jar Creator for Android.

The Futurama Head-in-a-Jar Creator does exactly as the name implies… it lets you create your own Head-in-a-Jar. The app gives you 4 species to choose from with Male, Female, Robot, and Alien. You will no doubt instantly recognize the style behind each one, and there are close different poses in all between the 4 species. Once you get your head and head color picked out you’re ready to start adding a little personality to your Head-in-a-Jar by choosing eyes, nose, hair, and extras which usually include something for the top of your head or things like cigars, bowties, and roses. You are limited on what you can choose depending on which species you go with, but there are a lot of choices for each species which means you’ll really get to be creative with your Head-in-a-Jar.

Once you’ve created your masterpiece you get to name it and choose a background, then you get a few options that let you show your head off. You can share via the usual channels like Bluetooth, Gmail, Text, etc… or you can add it to an Exhibit. The Exhibits are stored in the Head Museum where you’ll get to showcase your best heads for all the world to see. You can add or remove heads from exhibits and move them around on the shelves a bit which is nice if you decide to organize things by species. Futurama Head-in-a-Jar Creator has a video section as well, but I get a black screen when I click that tab on every device I tried it on.

Verdict

Initially the Futurama Head-in-a-Jar Creator had some issues with Force Closes and other little bugs, but everything seems to work well now. The only thing that didn’t work was the Video tab which is no big loss, and the app ran well on my Captivate, Asus 300 Tab, and Galaxy S3. As a fan it’s a great app to have as the wacky characters it allows you to create fit right into the world of Futurama. This one’s a “must have” app if you dig the show, and you can pick it up for free on Google Play.
