Activision. That’s a name that always brings back some great childhood memories, and thanks to the Activision Anthology you can now relive some of those glorious retro moments on your Android device. If you’re a fan of games like Pitfall, River Raid, and Kaboom you’ll want to keep on reading…
The Activision Anthology is a nice collection of all things retro as it lets you access and play around 45 different games that look just like they did when you played them back in the day. The app basically gives you the entire Activision 2600 lineup in one app, and if you’re worried about the controls don’t be as they give you several different ways to control each game. As mentioned the Activision Anthology is jam-packed full of games including such favorites as Pitfall 1 & 2, Moonsweeper, Plaque Attack, Seaquest, Ski Jinks, Stampede, Thwocker, Atlantis, and Chopper Command just to name a few. As cool as it all sounds, don’t be fooled by the word ‘free’ as you’re only going to get one game for free which is Kaboom. Everything else will cost you, and the games seem to come in 11-game packs at $2.99 a pop.
I just browsed through the Activision Anthology yesterday, and as a Retro guy I loved the menus, layout, manuals, and box art. Everything is laid out nicely and there are a lot of cool retro touches throughout although I was disappointed to find out you only get Kaboom for free. The touch controls worked great with Kaboom although I’m a little unsure how they’ll translate with other games like Pitfall or Seaquest which were two of my personal favs. $2.99 for 11 games isn’t a bad deal either, so I may end up picking up a pack just to see how well some of these golden oldies translate. If I do rest assured I’ll be back to let ya’ know. If you want to check it out for yourself you can pick up the Activision Anthology on Google Play for free.
