Old School Gamers got a treat this week in the form of the classic Dragon’s Lair from Digital Leisure. The game was first released on Laserdisk way back in 1983, since then it’s been ported to multiple consoles and now it’s available for Android.
For those of you not familiar with the game, Dragon’s Lair is a cinematic game where you’ll watch hand-drawn animation play out before you while you interact with the game. There’s a directional pad that guides you along the way, and you’ll use your sword to take down anything the evil Wizard Mordroc sends your way. The original was a site to behold back in the day, and Digital Leisure has transferred it all over and remastered it to work on a variety of Android phones and tablets.
Growing up I was a fan of all of Don Bluth’s work so it’s great to see Dragon’s Lair available on Android. I haven’t gotten a chance to play it yet, but am really looking forward to spending some time with Dirk, Daphne, Singe, and Mordroc. I’ll have more on this retro slice of awesomeness later, until then you can head on over to the market and pick up Dragon’s Lair for $4.99.
