Pro Zombie Soccer is zombie killing soccer game from the fine folks at Super Awesome Hyper Dimensional Mega Team. Zombies and Soccer aren’t two things that normally go together, but the Mega Team has made it work and turned Pro Zombie Soccer into a game that’s very addictive and a lot of fun to play.
Pro Zombie Soccer follows the story of a kid named Jax whose soccer skills are made a bit stronger when he’s bit by a zombie and given super-soccer zombie killing powers. You’ll have to use your newly found soccer skills to take out as many zombies as possible before you are eaten alive or turn into one of the undead yourself. How you take out the zombies is where things get interesting as the gameplay reminds me a lot of a pinball game. You can kick as many times as you’d like as there is no ammo per say, but you always have to wait for the ball to return which can be tricky. This means you have to aim carefully as there are fast & slow zombies in Pro Zombie Soccer. The controls are simple to use as you just have to aim and hold a button to kick; you can pull off a “PowerKick” by holding the kick button a bit longer, and you’ll need to do this on occasion as some zombies can only be downed with a PK.
Knocking a Zombie’s head off with a soccer ball is pretty damned cool, but it’s made a bit cooler with a few unique abilities you acquired from the bite. You’ll a speedy lighting ball, a piercing ball, and an Angry Military Satellite. Yup, you can give the undead death from above by kicking a ball into the stratosphere and activating an orbiting weapons platform. Pro Zombie Soccer has some depth as well; the regular version of the game gives you 19 levels while the Apocalypse edition (large tablets only) brings the count up to 21. The tablet version also throws two extra modes into the mix with Sniper and Odissey Mode Pro. Either way you slice it, there is plenty to keep you busy and thousands of zombies to destroy.
Verdict
Just when I think I’ve seen everything they can throw at me in a Zombie game, something new comes out like Pro Zombie Soccer. The game actually has a storyline which is a rarity these days, and it’s also original… another rarity these days. The graphics are top-notch, it’s got plenty of depth, and there’s actually nothing bad I can say about the game. If you dig zombies or soccer you’ll definitely get a “kick” out of the game, and if you love both you may have a coronary from overdosing on fun.
