Starfield Lands on PlayStation 5: The Wait is Finally Over

After nearly three years as an Xbox and PC exclusive, Starfield is coming to PlayStation 5 on April 7, marking a significant shift in Microsoft’s exclusive strategy. The game, developed by Bethesda Game Studios, originally came out in 2023 exclusively on Xbox and PC, but PlayStation owners can finally explore the Settled Systems.

This is not simply a bare-bones port. Bethesda built in full DualSense support, PS5 Pro-specific rendering modes, and launched the game alongside the free Free Lanes update and the paid Terran Armada DLC simultaneously. Adaptive triggers change from weapon to weapon (including your starship loadout), the light bar keeps tabs on your health and ship integrity, and the touchpad lets you jump between first- and third-person POV or instantly access your map and hand scanner.

For PS5 Pro owners, the experience gets even better. PS5 Pro owners will have access to two dedicated display modes at launch: Pro Visual Mode targets 4K resolution output at 30 frames per second to maximize visual fidelity, while Pro Performance Mode targets 60 frames per second for a smoother, more responsive gameplay experience, with both modes making use of Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaler.

With years of updates culminating in Free Lanes and Terran Armada, Starfield is a better game in 2026 than it has ever been. The timing couldn’t be better for PlayStation players getting the most polished version yet.
