The iPad 2 is not a 'game changer' says Phones 4u marketing director

The iPad 2 is ‘an evolution’ rather than a revolution like its predecessor, Phones 4u marketing chief Russell Braterman said today (4 March).

Apple’s iPad 2, which launched last night in San Francisco, has a faster processor, revamped thinner design, higher resolution display, and front- and rear-facing cameras.

Braterman said that Apple’s tablet would be threatened by devices such as the BlackBerry PlayBook or Samsung Galaxy Tab. However, he added that the second generation device is ‘like Take That’ – and better than ever the second time round.

Braterman said: ‘The Apple iPad was a revolution - the iPad 2 is an evolution.  Although the launch of the new Apple iPad 2 will be seen as another step forward for Apple, recent announcements in the category show that tablet devices, using Google’s Android 3 operating system, will continue to challenge the innovation of the iPad in the battle for market supremacy.'

He added: ‘There are already some great tablets on the market and some even greater ones launching this year, such as the Blackberry PlayBook and Samsung Galaxy Tab, which presents both us and our customers with a really exciting opportunity that we will be investing significantly in throughout 2011. However, the iPad 2 is like Take That – it's the second time round, better than ever, and let's be honest, it's a little bit slimmer, which is never a bad thing.’
