One of Com2uS' most popular mobile game series in Korea, with millions sold, the mini-game-based (and renamed) Puzzle Family has just hit the App Store.

Based around a typically cute anime character called Akoo, it consists of eight individual action puzzles. These range from fast finger tappers to match-3 and memory games. All are colourful, frantic and focused on high scores.

Mini and meta games

Replayability is further encouraged by the in-game currency - stars - which you use to unlock the 20 wacky characters in the puzzle family, as well as accessorising them with funny hats, clothes and pets, which improves their stats.

You also need stars to unlock the mini-games, although one requires you to log into Com2uS' social hub, and another your Facebook account.

Further mixing up the business model, some of the customisation items can only be bought with real cash via in-app purchases, while you can also buy stars with your hard-earned - upto 100,000 stars for $29.99.

In addition, two versions of the game are available.

There's a free ad-supported version, while the $1.99, €1.59 or £1.19 StarPack version comes without ads, a virtual wallet of 3,000 stars, which is enough cash to unlock the first five mini-games, and start customising Akoo.
