Android and iOS both have pros and cons:
iOS offers strong developer tools however is a more curated App Store with tight restrictions. These restrictions may hurt some while having no effect on others.

Android offers some developer tools, but are not as easy to use an do not provide the same graphics engine tools. The Android Market has almost no restrictions (However, they remotely removed malware just last week) and allows the writing of programs in many more languages than iOS which makes it much more "open".

iOS has a larger user base and is growing fast. Android has a smaller user base but is growing exponentially. Currently, iOS has 40% of the international market share compared to 26% of Android.

The Apps themselves:
-iOS has a very large app store with over 240,000 apps.
-Android has over 70,000 apps and is growing rapidly.

-iOS apps generally have a better UI, better graphics and are easier to use. iOS also has a larger portfolio of apps, and has thousands of games with very nice graphics.

-Android apps have a more bare bones UI, basic graphics and functions are usually hidden in the menus. Android doesn't have a large portfolio of apps like iOS and doesn't have many high quality games.

Take a look at the top free apps for Android and iPhone:

The top apps for iPhone are very different from those of Android. The top iPhone apps are mostly games, while not one of Android's is.

Now, take a look at the top paid apps for Android and iPhone:

The top paid apps for iPhone are largely games with the Android top paid apps being widgets, task killers.

What are developers choosing? Well for now it's largely all to iOS with around 1,400 developing for both platforms.

Do you think this will change as Android provides stronger developer tools and builds their user-base?
