| Rovio’s smash-hit mobile game Angry Birds is heading to Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform, it’s been confirmed. Read on to find out more. When asked by Pocket-lint whether a Windows Phone 7 version was in the works, Rovio head honcho (or “Mighty Eagle,” to use the game’s terminology) Peter Vesterbacka said: “we’re working on it.” Why has it taken so long, you might ask? “Let’s just say, Microsoft has a lot of lawyers,” says Vesterbacka. Presumably those lawyers have failed to notice the storm Angry Birds has caused on every platform it’s touched. It might not sound like much of a surprise to learn that Angry Birds is headed to yet another mobile platform – after all, the game’s a phenomenon that’s sweeping through multiple smartphone, console and desktop formats. However, it’s worth remembering that there’s a little bad blood between Microsoft and Rovio after the former used Angry Birds imagery without the latter’s consent during the Windows Phone 7 launch. All water under the bridge, according to Rovio head honcho Peter Vesterbacka. The company’s moving on to bigger and brighter things, including 3D gaming. According to Vesterbacka, Rovio is working on a 3D version of Angry Birds, and it’s going pretty well. “We’ve built a lot of 3D games before, it’s not like it’s a lot of learning in order to recreate the technology with Angry Birds,” he said. It’s unclear which platform it’s being made for, but the current front-runners would have to be the LG Optimus 3D and the Nintendo 3DS. Judging on past performance, it could well hit both. |
